What do the Cats Know?

Two years ago, a young woman poised on the brink of a brilliant engineering career disappeared.

Rumor suggested one of Kakislane’s sentient cat clans held her prisoner.

No one knew why they would hold her. Dark Spinners were allegedly involved.

But the Light Spinners of the Luxeran Anti-Shadow Service on Kakislane discounted the tale. Only one agent tried to rescue the young woman, and he recieved life-ending injuries for his trouble.

Now his wife, Agent Fajora, has returned to Kakislane to vindicate her husband and rescue the missing woman, if she’s still alive. Fajora must go alone, clandestinely, since the Luxeran service refuses to sanction the mission.

But when she infiltrates the cat clans, she discovers more going on between cats, humans, and Dark Spinners than she ever could have imagined. And the aura of one of the Dark Spinners is familiar, the aura of a colleague. She will have to find a way to block him before she can tell what she’s learned–what the cats of Kakislane know.

But the prisoners are in Interrogation Five in the impregnable First Ministry Building. To get to them, she needs entry codes, codes her informants cannot get. Without them, her mission is doomed to fail.

Then a Dark Spinner offers an impossible bargain. Impossible because Dark Spinners, alien invaders from the distant world of Luxera, target everything they do toward keeping humans subjugated. 

The Dark Spinner’s offer to provide the codes for just a small favor must be a trap, a scheme to uncover the hidden headquarters of the resistance community.

But that community will also be at risk if the prisoners break under the Inquisitor’s hand.

Now Ranita must chose. Take the codes and risk the trap, or give up on the prisoners and risk something much worse.
